Duties and Accountabilities
The objective of the Investment Officer is to support the IFC AMC Client Relations team and the fund teams primarily in their fundraising and mobilization efforts in North America, as well as selectively by agreement in other markets, principally the Caribbean and Africa, and to act as the business product owner for the ongoing development, scaling, and integration of the AMC Investor Connector Platform. The aim of the fundraising strategy is to attract potential investors, build and sustain senior-level institutional relationships, and secure commitments from qualified investors.
In addition, the Investment Officer will assist with other activities such as preparing investor presentations and briefing materials, assisting with investor due diligence requests, conducting market and regulatory research on target investor segments, maintaining investor data and engagement records that support management reporting, supporting the fund closing process, and organizing corporate events and conferences. The Investment Officer will report to the Head of Client Relations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conduct mapping of the private equity landscape in North America, identifying and segmenting potential target institutional investors (such as pension funds, wealth managers, endowments, and foundations) who may be interested in investing in impact investments in emerging markets, and producing prioritized outreach lists to guide senior-level engagement.
• Support fundraising efforts, including drafting investor communications and briefing materials, and maintaining the outreach plan and pipeline through defined stages of engagement.
• Build coverage of the private equity landscape in selected other markets with a focus on Africa, identifying and establishing relationships with target institutional investors and intermediaries, and maintaining current intelligence on regulatory and private market developments and key players.
• Evaluate third-party Limited Partner (LP) contact databases (contact name, telephone, address, email, title, short bio, etc.), assessing coverage of target investor segments and regions, data accuracy and refresh frequency, interoperability with the Investor Connector Platform and customer relationship management (CRM) systems, licensing terms, and cost. Make recommendations for AMC purchase of a preferred database provider.
• Implement the fundraising strategy by conducting investor outreach, setting up investor meetings, and following up with prospective investors to solicit commitments.
• Organize investor events, roadshows, and other fundraising activities in North America and, selectively, in other covered markets, to raise awareness about the funds and attract potential investors.
• Coordinate regular progress reports on fundraising activities across covered markets, including investor engagement and commitments.
• Act as the business product owner for the AMC Investor Connector Platform, working with IFC's Corporate Information Technology (CIT) function to scale the AI-enabled platform and drive its further development, including but not limited to integration with CRM systems.
Selection Criteria
• Master's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or equivalent.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in investor relations at an alternative investment firm, placement firm, international financial institution, or as a consultant.
• Solid understanding of private equity fundraising, structures, operations, and investment processes, particularly for emerging markets.
• Proven ability to build and sustain institutional investor relationships and progress them through the engagement cycle toward commitment.
• Knowledge of the institutional investor landscape across covered markets (North America, the Caribbean, and Africa), including the regulatory frameworks governing pension, insurance, and sovereign allocations to private markets. Experience in one or more of these markets is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Fluency in other languages relevant to target markets is a plus.
• Experience as a product owner or product manager for a technology platform, working cross-functionally with IT teams through requirements, user acceptance testing, and rollout, including CRM integration.
• Experience building or scaling investor databases and dashboards, with strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI, and familiarity with AI-enabled fundraising tools.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with strong client service orientation and relationship-building abilities.
• Strong team player, willing to work outside the scope of work, outside business hours, and across time zones.
• Understanding of IFC, its mission and operations preferred.
• Highly motivated, committed to the highest ethical standards.
The Investment Officer is expected to understand the fundamentals of private equity investments, the emerging market private equity fundraising environment, and private equity fund structures. Exposure to legal issues related to fundraising and fund documents is a prerequisite.
