Now Brewing – director, Corporate Communications Campaigns! #tobeapartner
From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.
As a director of communications at Starbucks, you will lead through deep expertise in both proactive and reactive communications strategy, always-on, modern media approaches — including earned media, digital storytelling, social amplification, and data-driven tools — and the ability to translate complex business information into compelling narratives for diverse audiences. You will be one in a comms team cohort of trusted advisors to C-suite executives and cross-functional partners, with strong media relationships and a track record of developing integrated, multi-channel communications programs that drive measurable shifts in perception in support of the company's Back to Starbucks business strategy. As a people leader, you will set clear goals, coach broadly beyond your own area of expertise, and help build well-rounded, modern communications teams. As a Starbucks director, you should be able to 1) thrive in ambiguity — creating a clear path forward in fast-moving, uncertain environments; 2) build momentum — creating shared purpose and urgency within and across teams; 3) build broad capability — developing others beyond their own domain to grow well-rounded communicators; and 3) think broadly — bringing a long-term, integrated view of the business and external environment to every communications decision.
As a director, corporate communications campaigns, you will:
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to surface, shape, and amplify the company's most compelling stories that positively influence perceptions of Starbucks reputation.
• Develop and lead integrated communications campaigns that elevate Starbucks reputation as a great employer and purpose-driven company — connecting the company’s actions, programs, and stories to drive positive perception with key audiences.
• Drive always-on, proactive and reactive communications strategies connected to the back to Starbucks strategy across areas including partner (employee) experience, community impact and sustainability.
• Build and execute modern communications strategies that leverage owned, earned, and digital channels to reach diverse audiences and meaningfully shift brand perception.
• Lead rapid-response communications on ESG, employer brand, social impact, and community-related topics, developing messaging and strategies that protect and advance Starbucks' reputation.
• Serve as a strategic leader within the global communications function, championing modern communications tools, methods, and capabilities that advance the team's impact and reach.
• Collaborate with global communications partners to ensure strategic alignment, consistent messaging, and integrated campaign execution across markets and channels.
We’d love to hear from people with:
• 10 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or purpose-driven campaigns, with a focus on employer brand, ESG, social impact, or community storytelling
• Proven track record developing and executing integrated, multi-channel communications campaigns that shift perception and drive measurable business results
• Deep media relations experience and experience leading proactive and reactive communications strategies on topics including partner (employee) experience, sustainability, community engagement, and social responsibility
• Deep understanding of modern communications strategies and tools, including digital storytelling, social amplification, and data-driven approaches
• Ability to build trusted partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders and effectively influence senior leadership
• Exceptional storytelling and content development skills, with the ability to translate complex programs, data, and initiatives into compelling narratives for diverse audiences
• Experience managing and developing communications professionals in a collaborative, matrixed environment
• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred
